Roll Etching Machines are specialized surface treatment equipment designed to restore and maintain the required surface roughness on rolls used in steel mills, cold rolling mills, printing industries, and paper mills. During the rolling process, rolls progressively lose their surface texture due to continuous friction and pressure contact with the workpiece, reducing their effectiveness and the quality of the rolled product.
The roll is loaded onto a work car mounted on a track extension outside the blasting cabinet. Once positioned inside the cabinet, reciprocating blast nozzles project high-velocity abrasive media such as aluminium oxide, chilled iron grit, or coarse-grade steel shot uniformly across the rotating roll surface. The combination of roll rotation and nozzle reciprocation ensures complete and uniform etching coverage across the entire roll body, restoring the desired surface profile and Ra roughness value.
The spent abrasive is automatically collected at the bottom hopper, recycled through a bucket elevator and air-wash separator, and returned to the blasting circuit. A fabric bag or pulse-jet dust collection system maintains a clean, compliant working environment throughout the etching cycle. The operator is only required to load and unload the roll, making the process highly efficient and operator-safe.

Our machines deliver consistent Ra values, uniform etching coverage, and long-term operational reliability for demanding industrial maintenance applications across India.

Reciprocating Blast Nozzle System
Hydro-pneumatic or lead-screw driven reciprocating nozzles ensure uniform abrasive projection across the full length of the roll body, eliminating uneven etching zones.
Motorized Roll Rotation Mechanism
Variable-speed motorized roll rotation combined with nozzle reciprocation delivers complete and consistent surface coverage on rolls of varying diameters and lengths.
Track-Mounted Work Car Loading
Roll loading and unloading is performed outside the blast cabinet on a track-mounted work car, enabling safe, ergonomic handling and minimal operator exposure.
Precision Abrasive Media Compatibility
Compatible with aluminium oxide, chilled iron grit, and coarse steel shot, allowing precise control of the etched surface profile and Ra roughness value as per application requirements.
Automatic Abrasive Recycling
Integrated bucket elevator and air-wash separator continuously recycle blasting media, maintaining consistent abrasive quality and reducing operational costs.
High-Efficiency Dust Collection
Fabric bag or pulse-jet dust collectors maintain dust emission levels within prescribed industrial safety limits throughout the roll etching process.

We aim to make everything simple and transparent, so you know exactly what to expect when working with us.

A Roll Etching Machine is a specialized shot blasting equipment used to restore and maintain the required surface roughness (Ra value) on rolls used in steel mills, cold rolling mills, printing presses, and paper mills. During service, rolls lose their surface texture due to friction and pressure contact with the workpiece. Roll etching machines use high-velocity abrasive media projected through reciprocating nozzles onto a rotating roll to restore the original surface profile required for optimal rolling or printing performance.
